Making Time for Short Indoor Games
Short Sessions Add Up
You don't need a long stretch of free time to engage your dog or cat indoors. Even five to ten minutes of focused play — a few times a day — helps pets burn energy and stay mentally stimulated. Short sessions that fit around your schedule are far better than infrequent long ones.
Games That Need Minimal Space
Simple games work well in most homes. Hide-and-seek with a favourite toy, a brief tug session, or a scatter-feeding exercise on a mat can all be done in a small room. For cats, a wand toy moved slowly and unpredictably provides excellent engagement without requiring much floor space.
End on a Calm Note
Finishing each session with a few seconds of calm — asking your dog to sit, or letting your cat catch the toy — helps pets wind down rather than staying in an excited state after play ends.
